Weaving a web of support around the globe. This site matches web designer volunteers with non-profits around the world. Seems like a good way to bulk up a portfolio while making a difference.

If anybody here is interested in building a portfolio, email me. I just started a nonprofit, and I could use the help.

If you're willing to travel, consider GeekCorps. They plan 1-4 month placements in "emerging nations" [magazine interview]. Haven't applied yet myself, but I suspect this kind of volunteer post could be a highly life-rewarding experience.

Last time I checked, GeekCorps was for Americans only, unfortunately.

Well, now it isn't.

From Volunteering FAQ:
6. I'm not an American. Can I still apply?
Absolutely. Our applications come from every continent- and we have had volunteers from South America, North America, Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia- and yes, even Antarctica!

If I weren't already involved up to the wazoo with various other volunteer projects, I would sign up. As it is, my dog thinks shes attention deprived.
