Bye-bye Brunching. For nearly six years we've been entertained by The Brunching Shuttlecocks: Lore, David, and The Self-Made Critic. Now, the site is officially closed.

Geez, that's two of the funniest sites on the web (the other being Not My Desk) shutting down within a week of each other. What will become of the Lore-Chris-Spinn-Zompist cabal now? Man. First the loss of Suck in the summer of 2001, and now this. In the days before blogs, these were really sites that were all about people who said, "I've got some funny things to contribute to the web," and went into online publishing. It was really like an online extension of the 90s 'zines. As for my favorites, I leave you with Ratings: Sesame Street Characters and Smart Ass Answers to the 80s Quiz.

*sigh* I'll miss the 'cocks. Here's an interview I did with Lore almost two years ago. I guess he's finally taking that nap. [on a side note, some of my proudest web moments (okay, I am way geek) were links to my site on the brunching web site - one front page reference and two on the message boards. Naturally, the front page link was to the one thing on my site that I didn't actually do, but still...]

The Blair Family Circus Project, Christian Metal Band or Star Trek Episode and anything from bandwidth theatre (especially More than Meets the Eye). Lore is probably the funniest person on the net, and has the technical skill to write Roshambo Run. Why haven't you Americans elected him yet?

I thought ther perl ad code quiz was beyond brilliance. I first saw this about three years ago and I still continue to refer people to it. Definitely a must-read for all geeks. Three years later, I haven't seen anything that even comes close.

Great interview Neale! Quoth Lore: "I didn't have any particular attachment to the Web. I would have taken any global medium with built-in distribution and a low cost of entry that wasn't controlled by mega-corporations and which appealed to literate, technically minded people while at the same time having the potential for massive popular attention. The Web just happened to be there."
