HomeFront Society actresses get new wardrobe and boy howdy are things going to change. Yesterday we saw how Canada's HomeFront Society is addressing domestic violence in a pair of PSAs. Now waitresses and professional women don't have to take that kind of abuse any longer, not with the No-Contact Jacket of course. From the site:
The No-Contact Jacket is a wearable defensive jacket created to aid women in their struggle for protection from violence. When activated by the wearer, 80,000 volts of low amperage electric current pulses just below the surface shell of the entire jacket. This exo-electric armor prevents any person from unauthorized contact with the wearer's body. (just watch the videos)
I don't know about you - but I could see these jackets come in handy in a number of situations...

According to the Bureau of Justice three out of four women in the United States will be victims of one violent crime during their lifetime.

Aw, man, that's just cool. It reminds me of the electric-shock anti-theft device on the messenger's bike in William Gibson's Virtual Light.

We also incorporated smaller sizing and relatively narrow armholes such that it would be unlikely to fit a man comfortably. This is an intentional use of design to reduce the risk of men adopting the device. The No-Contact Jacket is intended for non-aggressive passive defense and is not intended to proliferate violence.
That makes sense, what with all men being violent bastards who would have no use for anything to defend them against attack.

Pass that crayon along this way when you're finished.

Awww, darn it! You know, I searched all over Metafilter to make sure that the link hadn't been posted - and sure enough - searching for the link "http://www.no-contact.com/" yeilds nothing...

I didn't know that I had to search 'newsfilter' also...

Of couse, that'll teach me to skip over the one line FPPs. Call me a MeFi snob - but I like the posts with a little more meat in them and not just a few words and a link...

Sorry, that should have been: a link...

Hmmmm. Three things spring immediately to mind:
1) I very much doubt that this jacket would EVER be legal in the UK, since we've banned tasers et cetera.
2) You wanna walk into a petrol/gasoline station wearing one of these things?
3) Won't this just mean that smart rapists/muggers/serial killers will be wearing rubber gloves from now on?
