Walt Disney World's recent designation as a no-fly zone has had an additional consequence: Christian extremists can no longer harass gay tourists from above.

Well, there's still below, beside and, of course, behind.

Yes, because we know a group of gay men who are so proud to announce they are gay, and go to one of the gayest places on Earth, yes, I am sure they are all lining up saying, "bring me your lord's message of saving me from homosexuality. I feel wrong..."

While I will not be anywhere near to them, I'd suggest I could save them from having their keys so pronounced.

Wow. The Department of Justice being in the unenviable (from Ashcroft's perspective) position of having - in effect - to protect gays from Christians. He must be grinding his teeth. Oh, well, at least as a consolation prize he's trampling all over free speech (allegedly). That must make him feel a bit better.

It's so funny, the only thought that comes to mind: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. It feels so juvenile, but just so right. The forces of evil have stabbed each other.

Christian extremeists, harrasing? That's some loaded language.....

Disney's wonderful treatment of the gay community is the only reason why I can't damn it to corporate hell.

lychee: Well, ask yourself this: are they genuinely for the gay community, or they just cynically cashing in on a way to rake in more of the moolah? Once you've pondered that, I think you'll be sending them to the lake of fire anyway :)

"are they genuinely for the gay community, or they just cynically cashing in on a way to rake in more of the moolah?"

They're after their cash, which is nice. It means that gays are being treated exactly like everyone else, for a change.

I prefer "fundy wackjobs" myself, but "harassing" seems about right.

As patently stupid as special No-Fly Zones for Disney(land, world) are (as they essentially amount to discriminatory federal regulatory protection for one chunk of private property over another - where's Cedar Point's no-fly zone, dammit!), to try and knock down the no-fly zone on first amendment rights is shaky, to say the least. It's a far cry from freedom of expression to air rights.

I have to admit, it'd make sense to do it above more amusement parks too. Personally, I'd love to see the things gone. Man are they annoying, and I always get the vague impression that one of these days one of those things is going to come crashing down on a crowd. (Or go crashing into a roller coaster, since those keep getting taller and taller).

Well I am not gay and I have never been to Florida.. . that said, I think that these planes must have had SOME entertainment value. . .I mean. . here you are, walking down the crowded walkways in Disneyworld, hand in hand with your same-sex partner (help me out Wolfdaddy, they do that there, I assume), and to have these planes flying overhead consigning you to the inner rings of Hell, well what a frigging lark!

Right... because during the rest of the year, DisneyWorld, like everyone, says, "Take your fag cash and go to hell".

Time to make the entire country as gay as Disneyworld. For the sake of the precious little ones the terrorists want to kill. For their sake.

It's amazing how prolonged stupidity comes full circle.

Forgive my ignorance of the nuances of fundie politics but what does Operation Rescue have to do with gays? I thought they were an anti-abortion organization.

...planes pulling banners reading: "JESUS CHRIST: HOPE FOR HOMOSEXUALS.COM."

I'm just wondering if they're trying to say that Jesus Christ can help www.homosexuals.com, or if their PR guys really screwed up their website advertising.

I dunno, ArsncHeart, but homosexuals.com forwards to something called xxxworld.com. Are you guys sure these were Christian Fundamentalists?

I can think of a few things I'd like to fly over some fundie wack job church on Sunday.

"HOPE FOR HOMOSEXUALITY.COM" = http://www.hopeforhomosexuality.com = http://www.familypolicy.net/hope/

And from there: "Anne Paulk ~ wife, mother, former lesbian" - riiight.

Also from there:

Thank you Trent Lott, Reggie White, and recording artists Angie and Debbie Winans for having the courage to speak the truth about sexual sin.

Wow, it sure takes courage to bad-mouth an oppressed minority!

I know WolfDaddy beat me to it... but here's what I was dying to post:

"Christian Extremists No Longer Able to Harass Gays from Above or Behind - Reaction from Gay Community Mixed"

Come on now - conversion fantasies are something we all share.

No way the suit will go through, not on the grounds they've chosen. It's patently not an issue of the content of the speech, or even of the existence of speech.

Meh. Whatever gives the wackjobs a sense of purpose, I guess.

I'd like the airspace restriction over 1600 Pennsylvania Ave NW, Washington DC lifted so I can exercise my 1st amendment rights and fly this banner:

"G. W., IS OUR CHILDREN LEARNING: HOOKEDONPHONICS.COM."

then again, "Surrender Dorothy: PLANETOUT.COM" may be a bit more succinct.

I think Corky St. Clair said it best:

"[Fundamentalist Christians], I hate you... and your ass face!"

"[Fundamentalist Christians], you're all bastard people!"
