I'm not sure how I'm supposed to respond to this post. The article is pretty much a 'non-event', in my opinion.

'Group of the Martyr Ebenezer Scrooge' - gawd thats funny.

that it's still (mostly) classified is however, very un-funny.

dabitch: why? I'd consider the fact that it was classified a meta-joke, a satire of the whole 'classified' concept by those most familiar with it.

It makes me think that other classified information could be de-classified (and isn't). is that a meta-joke?

Probably is... most certainly I'd say. But so what?

oh, I dunno, perhaps I'm the only one who wants to know what that sept 11 report has to say. Keeping [current] sensitive information classified is one thing, but jokes is quite another and may give rise to unnecessary speculation. Just a thought.

Perhaps. This story seems to be making this whole thing rather simple. I just doubt that it is.

"This shows that the system is not about protecting real security issues," said Thomas Blanton, director of the U.S.-based National Security Archive, which made the Santa records public. "The bulk of what government keeps secret is to avoid embarrassment."

Well, yeah.
