Mobile Phone Throwing World ChampionshipsYou can register either in Freestyle or Original (the traditional over the shoulder -style). Alternatively, you can register as a team (max. three persons / team). There's also have a Junior category for competitors of under 12 years. Grading in Freestyle is based on style and aesthetics, whereas in Original the grading is purely based on length and style. In both categories theree prizes will be awarded. The current Ukranian record is 57 metres.

the competition should involve grabbing the phone out of the hand of some obnoxious moron who is currently having a loud, pointless conversation in a public place.

Do they let you use phones of an earlier vintage? I remember that my first Cellular One phone by Motorola (circa 1994) had some serious heft.

I resisted getting a cell phone for a looong time. But I finally had to get one when I found myself having to move several times in the span of two years or so. I had the phone for about three weeks, when I accidently left it in the cargo pocket of some shorts I was wearing. I discovered this unfortunate error when I heard it tumbling around in the dryer. That's right, I washed it.

The fun was pulling it out of the dryer and lauching it into the air with my friend's "big ass sling-shot".

Oh my God. That's my hometown. I'm away for five years and they are already throwing their mobiles...

Amazingly this competition gets on MeFi before this festival or this historic castle.

I was buying groceries yesterday and the lady at the front of the line was talking on her phone while we waited for her to sign her credit card slip. I came very close to flinging that phone out into the parking lot.
