WMD on Google. Go to google. Type "weapons of mass destruction". Look at the first result (alternatively, hit the "I feel lucky" button). Read the error message carefully. Interesting commentary. Do you think Google will "take this down"?

Well, I never thought I'd be one to do this, but hasn't this been posted 3 times before?

I should make a livejournal blog so I can trackback this fucking thread each time it happens, just to further confuse people.

There needs to be some sort of intermediate screen between 'preview your post' and 'submit your post' that asks the question, "Are you sure you did a search for this?", or words to that effect, just to remind people to do a search, because sometimes people just plain forget. And then these pile-ons (which, ironically, are not unlike double-posts themselves in that everyone posts the same comments over and over) occur.

Matt will see this. And Matt will delete it. It ain't exactly rocket science.

(thank you, thank you , yes I know...it's a great tagline)

My god. It's going to keep happening. And happening. And happening. And happening.

oh - And Happening.

(since this is numero 5).

Jeezus Christ, my DAD mentioned this to me. And he first told me the "two left wing" KFC Hillary Clinton joke a WEEK ago. Give it a rest people, it was mildly amusing the first time, it wasn't the second time, it was still older when it got published in time magazine... Ugghh, you do realize metafilter has a search engine, right?

Of course, this joke is a whole lot funnier if you're running Mozilla Firebird, cuz you can just type 'weapons of mass destruction' straight into the address bar, hit enter, and that page comes up.
posted by wackybrit at 1:46 PM on July 16, 2003

(Damn you, signal... you stole my joke. Ooops. on second sight, You stole it from one of the former threads! Even our snarky comments are becoming doubleposts!!)

Ok, we did the "Groundhog Day" one...

I'll take the

"There's a glitch in the Matrix!"

one this time.

Remember the time that Harry Potter dangled his weapons of mass destruction off a second-floor balcony?
posted by PrinceValium at 1:53 PM on July 16, 2003

since redundant posts only exist for a while before matt deletes them, the only way to prevent double posts is to search for them. just because the same link keeps getting posted doesn't make it any less likely that it'll be posted again, since most people miss the double or triple posts.

maybe if double posts would get locked, but show up in red, so people would see them, you'd get fewer of these cloned posts.
