The Mercury Music prize has rolled around again. 1 2 t o p a r t i s t s from the UK and Ireland are up for glory. Winning is no guarantee of long term success, so frankly,what's the point?

*blinks* I was googling around last year trying to find out if Martina Topley-Bird had any solo work coming out, and the results were discouraging... But now there's an album to be released July 14th. Excellent. Her voice and contributions to Tricky's Maxinquaye made that album the glorious thing it is, so I'm excited about this. Nice site design, too. But why won't people proofread; apparently she's playing with some band called "Massive Attach" in the near future.

What do you mean, whats the point? 20 grand and enormous exposure. Many of those 12 would be quite pleased to have 20 grand, strangely enough.

Hmm, I haven't though about Talvin Singh in a while, I should dig that album out of my collection, it was quite good.

What do you mean, whats the point? It reflected the content of the article, which allowed me to play devils' advocate. I thought the first comment made my feelings clear..

As fellow Dubliner to them, my vote is for The Thrills, (link is one mentioned in the FPP), who are extremely popular in Ireland and only released their debut a couple of weeks ago. It's fair to say that they are pretty derivative, but they are a lot of fun to listen to and they really brighten your day...
