The Lycette Brothers have a nice little flash and shockwave collection. Their oldest is the Goreyesque Illustrated Alphabet of Unfortunate Chance, in which dire alphabetic catastrophes plague the dapper but unlucky Monsieur Maurice. Their newest is The Modern Compendium of Miniature Automata, in which you can make your own creaky, whirling, steam age nanobot or just browse through the endless collection of books displaying automated creatures.

Excellent link. I don't know why but the sounds for the Illustrated Alphabet, remind me of Pitfall.

Excellent stuff, as usual, iconomy. I love the interface on the Miniature Automata section, and enjoyed creating my own. Any idea if the names assigned to them ("Autospim Bituv" indeed) are totally random or applied through some algorithm? I'd imagine the former, except I created mine to highlight the way portions of the machinery in the middle form eyes and a face - and it was given the name "Autospon Oclirae." Hmmmm...

I thought the automata was neat, until I realized there were only a few possible creations. And the names seem to be generated by the slide values.

I thought the automata was neat, until I realized there were only a few possible creations. Well, 720 (6!), of course, but I get your point. I was put off at first by the limits of what I could choose. Nice hole-drilling varmint, anyway.
