I agree, stbalbach, and in fact I think the photos would be almost pointless without the biographical bits. I'm not so impressed with most of the portraits themselves; The color-on-BW gimmick is distracting and most of them feel like advertisements rather than good portraits. But it was really neat to read about the people in the pictures.

i don't mind the color-on-BW 'gimmick' at all: i think they're fantastic photographs. OTOH, what bothers me is the annoyingly huge animated gif on the homepage (if you're going to do something like that, flash is easier and smaller). also, for some reason, the top navigation ~~is a nightmare~~ doesn't work at all (i'm on PC 2000 using mozilla, 1.2.1).

Beautiful, plep - thanks! This guy has devoted 25 years to documenting indigenous cultures and threatened environments before they slip from our grasp. This is only one of his many projects, all worth exploring. I found Enduring Spirit, a project for Amnesty International, very moving.
