Geek or killer? Can you tell the difference? (via Daypop)

9/10. Bring 'em on.

Fun in brief, but it really needs to be longer (more choices). Also, If I had half an ounce of skill, I would design it such that you had to choose between to pictures, one a geek and the other a serial killer/mass murderer. And why limit it to just program developers? Why not include OS developers and DB gurus? I've seen some pretty awful pics of Linus on the Intarwebnet, and Larry Ellison has always struck me as a serial killer looking mofo ...

(ps. 8 out 10. Not bad, I'm thinking)

woop, 9/10. I like the sound effects.

9/10, but some of the serial killers (Gein Berkowitz) are pretty well known. I'm going make sure all the doors are locked

4/10. I'm buggered.

7/10, but isn't this a dumb premise for a quiz?

This is hysterical. 6/10, by the way.

Geek or killer?

What's the difference? Oh, and 7/10.

10/10... honest. Admittedly, I guessed on several.

10/10! Who's da man?

Gloat. Smirk.

(/dumb luck)

I guessed on all but a couple, but still ended up with 7/10 out of sheer, dumb luck.

I like what they did with the somewhat creepy shadow that appears at the bottom right part of the image.

4/10. The sound effects made me laugh...

I got 8/10, but apparently I should go back for the sound effects. Bet I get 10/10 next time!

That's one of the best flash sites I've ever seen. Lovely.

5/10. Why is it that so many program developers look like serial killers?
posted by dg at 4:22 PM on August 4, 2003

10/10 on the first try. I know my killers. Awww yeah.

Does anyone know the font used in the descriptions on the right? I really like that one.

FormlessOne-- if you think that you're likely offended.

4/10. Damn.

Funny, though!

9/10

Its like I'm psychic or something.

Someone should make a clone of this... but with MeFi members.

Geeks and serial killers don't look really alike. In other words:

10/10!!!

Hot damn! 10/10 first time without cheating - that sort of thing never happens to me. Perhaps I should buy a lottery ticket and see how far this luck thing is going to stretch...

Christ, 2/10. How on earth do you people know every killer and/or programmer? I only knew about David Berkowitz, every other one was a guess (and wrong almost every time).

"The Terminator" wiped out entire families across the Ukraine at point-blank range with a 112-guage shotgun...

Dude, a 112-guage shotgun wouldn't even hurt.

Also, why do non-Ukrainians say "The Ukraine" and Ukranians say just "Ukraine?"

This is the site of a (possibly ex-) mefite, but I'll be damned if I can remember who.

I must've been channelling mathowie when I took it. 2/10. Berkowitz + one lucky guess.
posted by jacquilynne at 6:53 PM on August 4, 2003

Also, why do non-Ukrainians say "The Ukraine" and Ukranians say just "Ukraine?"

Because the country is called Ukraine. Ukraine also means "borderland" so when you say "the Ukraine" it is sorta like saying "the borderland" which some feel is a way of diminishing it's status as a country.

Oh yeah, 7/10, like that Philip Wadler looks so much like a computer guru it's scary, and Berkowitz is a bit of a gimme.

10/10. I know my programmers. :)

I thought about posting this when i saw it, but decided against it after finishing.. it was quite easy to tell, we can sense our own kind

*wonders whether the excellent scores of some are a reflection of a fixation with programmers or with serial killers*

It's easy to tell the difference - the serial killers look insane and creepy. The programmers merely look creepy.

The site belongs to malevolent, who has that really spiffy weblog. Stav, you know there's no such thing as an ex-mefite ;)

Well, for me it was the latter... Anyone I didn't recognize as a serial killer I guessed as being a programmer, hence my own 10/10.

I don't suppose that's something I ought to admit, eh?

OT: Ukraine vs. "the Ukraine".
posted by dhartung at 11:10 PM on August 4, 2003

Blimey, there must be an above average number of MeFi subscriptions to Sicko Gruesome Crime Monthly around here to get all those 10/10s...
posted by malevolent at 1:06 AM on August 5, 2003

9/10 here. I know way too much about cannibals.

Sandwich anyone?

9/10, but some of the serial killers (Gein Berkowitz) are pretty well known.

Gein Berkowitz, now there's a frightening crossbreed to think about...

2/10. I'm never talking to my so-called "geeky" friends again - how will I know their true intentions?
posted by UKnowForKids at 7:07 AM on August 5, 2003

10/10. I guessed at #2, The Terminator, but guessed correctly, 'cause I thought he looked a lot like Ed Gein. Then #3 was ol' Ed. Sigh...I'm really weird, but feel less so in the context of Metafilter.
posted by MrMoonPie at 8:52 AM on August 5, 2003

9/10. Pegged the first one for a serial killer. Like nelleish, anyone I didn't recognize I assumed was a programmer. (The Encylopedia of Serial Killers is a handy book to have read.)
posted by jennyb at 10:05 AM on August 5, 2003

8/10. this made me look up ed gein, and now I don't want to eat lunch.
posted by Hackworth at 12:04 PM on August 5, 2003

9/10, not through any familiarity with these specific programmers or killers, more with the way they look in general... something in the eyes, perhaps. Seeing someone else's shoulder in shot is also a giveaway that it's an escorted-into-custody photo. (Plus, programmers never let other people get that close to them :)

And I'll second those mad props for malevole.com's interface.
