I can't believe I missed a National Day of Prayer. And to think, this one involved a demonstration just blocks from my house. Damn it, I'm usually so devout when it comes to these things, and now that the day is nearly over, it looks like the prayer didn't even come true...

See, Steve, that's why I'm kicking myself. While God might have been reticent to grant Larry's wishes, I just know if I had added my voice to the chorus in time, I just might have been the straw that broke Bill O'Reilly's back. I mean, don't get me wrong, I'm no saint, but I'm far enough from Larry that God might have looked down & decided "Gee, if two people as different as Larry & my good man Jonson are both in favor of Bill O'Reilly's painful death, maybe I should look into it further". Aw well, no use crying over missed opportunities, I suppose.

If he believed in gods I would think he deserves at least something after been shot by a right-wing segregationist just because Flynt published magazines showing sex acts and unions this cowerdly sniper did not approve.

None of this exactly endeared Flynt to prominent politicians, feminists, clergymen, and moral crusaders of every stripe. They denounced him with fervor. It shouldn't surprise anybody if it ever comes out that the Christian censors had been praying for Flynt's death all along.

In March 1978, one antagonist opted to take matters into his own hands. Using a high-powered rifle, Joseph Paul Franklin shot Flynt and his lawyer outside a Georgia courthouse. Apparently, the sniper was incensed over HUSTLER's depictions of interracial couples. Franklin, an avowed white supremacist and former Klansman, was finally apprehended in 1980.

Following the incident, Flynt took stock of his life and rethought his priorities:

"When I was gunned down in the streets of Georgia and paralyzed, I saw that pretty much as my life being over. And I made a calculated decision to spend the rest of my life devoted to expanding the parameters of free speech."

From that point on, Flynt would be spending a lot more time in courtrooms.

The pray for death thing is a playbook out of the religious handbook, they've been trying it for a long time now. Their communal hate did help get him shot. God works in mysterious ways, eh Steve?

The two formed a fast friendship, which resulted in Flynt’s surprising and publicized conversion to Christianity. Under the guidance of Stapleton, Flynt altered his mindset about Hustler’s objective, vowing to no longer portray women in such a vulgar manner.
