I am a huge fan of Kansas, and have visited 84 of its 105 counties. (The hard drive on every one of my computers, in addition, has been named for The Big Well.) Other fine spots: The Garden of Eden and Monument Rocks. I also am a huge fan of links like this, and am amazed (astonished, even) to find a pancakes link on MeFi worth checking out. Nice job, srboisvert!

Kansas is quite a mysterious place... I never quite understood why Bob Dole is from Kansas, but Dole pineapple isn't. Or why Kansas City isn't necessarily a city in Kansas. Or why you can find Topeka and Santa Fe on a map, but not Acheson. Or how the pronunciation of Kansas goes all pearshaped when you add an "A-R-". And if Missouri is the "Show Me" State, why shouldn't Kansas be the "Show YOU" state...

The Big Well Uhh.... why would you want a hand-dug well 32 feet in diameter? Did they have a 32-foot-wide bucket for reasons probably best left unexplored? Or was it a reverse of the Stonehenge problem (32 INCHES, it says! INCHES!)?

the funniest, wittiest guy I've ever known is from Kansas Living in Kansas forces you to develop a sense of humor, otherwise you'd have no way to keep entertained. I'm just glad we have Ahnold drawing the state jokes de jour over to California, while we struggle to keep evolution back in the high school science curriculum. No, really, I do like it here.
