Remixed G.I. Joe PSAs. August 12, 2003 8:51 AM Subscribe
Remixed G.I. Joe PSAs. Chicago filmmaker Eric Fensler has taken the "Knowing Is Half the Battle" PSAs that accompanied the 1980s G.I. Joe cartoon series and replaced the audio tracks with his own. The results are utterly hilarious. (Audio NSFW.) This site only has four, but there are more out there (details inside).

Apparently, he's done about 25 PSAs.
There's a single Quicktime file floating around that has six of them, two of which also appear on the main link. Out of respect for some unsuspecting guy's bandwidth, I don't want to link directly to a copy, but the filename is "gijoe_psa.mov".
There's a high-resolution set of four cartoons, two of which also appear on the main link and one of which is included in the aforementioned QuickTime file. iFilm has a streaming version, and Illegal Art has a 111Mb MPEG-2 file (note that many media players can't play this format without an additional component).
If anyone knows where any more of these can be found online, please post them here. posted by staggernation at 8:53 AM on August 12, 2003

Love the body massage one. posted by woil at 9:13 AM on August 12, 2003
They're so absurd and weird. Absolutely hilarious. The cool thing is that they managed to match up the animation with the new audio pretty well, so part of the joy is just seeing the originals butchered into something so bizarre. JOY! posted by almostcool at 9:15 AM on August 12, 2003
Found these awhile ago. Yes, if anyone has more, please put'em up on BitTorrent or something. I was so disspointed when I found out there were only four. posted by gramcracker at 9:19 AM on August 12, 2003
This is freakin' GOLD. When I was a kid, I wondered what the other half of the battle was. Now that I'm older and wiser, I know it's KILLING. kyuk kyuk kyuk. posted by freakystyley at 10:29 AM on August 12, 2003
Wow, great post and good timing as well. The first post over at PenIsMightier just hosted 11 of the episodes.
More GI Joe goodness. The Body Massage one is my favorite because I can still remember the actual GI Joe PSA about downed power lines. posted by Be'lal at 10:35 AM on August 12, 2003
The audio has a terrible echo and is unintelligible when I try to play one. I've got a wrong setting somewhere? Any ideas? posted by wsg at 10:59 AM on August 12, 2003
wsg- P2P is a fantastic resource for codecs, but be super careful. the windows codecs are sometimes bundled with viruses- working codecs, however. Check your running processes carefully if you go that route. posted by Mayor Curley at 11:15 AM on August 12, 2003
I haven't had any luck with the above-linked AVI's. I've got the most recent version of Windows Media (yeah yeah, I should know better), but all I'm getting is audio out of them and no video (and hey! that's only half the battle, dammit!). posted by almostcool at 11:24 AM on August 12, 2003
I just downloaded the most recent DIVx bundle from download.com and that seemed to do the trick when trying to run the .avi files. posted by Dr_Octavius at 11:34 AM on August 12, 2003

You know, I'm a member of the target audience for these, having watched GI Joe a lot when I was younger, but I didn't find them funny at all. It's no Sealab 2021, that's for sure. posted by dammitjim at 12:38 PM on August 12, 2003

I found Fensler's work through a zine I picked up at Tower Records, Select-Media. Some of Fensler's other projects are on the DVD included with the 10-ish dollar magazine, but only the GI Joe PSAs caused me to laugh so hard that I fell off the sofa.
