Dallas Doctor Dies In Freak Elevator Accident Not sure if this is getting national coverage - I haven't been able to stop freaking out about it all day. The worst part was that a female hospital worker was trapped in the elevator with the, uh, aftermath for almost 20 minutes. Is it just that news is getting more sensational, or are weirder things happening?

It's just that you don't read MetaFilter. We post stuff like this all the time.

Weirder. Also reported yesterday, "Man killed when hair is caught in fairgrounds ride."

It basically scalped him, and he fell and landed on the fence.

Maybe the doctor pushed the elevator's button one too many times.

boy, when gruesome scenes from The Fly II not only happen in real life, but make FPP twice, 14 years later, you gotta wonder: do we love this shit or what?

Saw the elevator item on CBC's crawler. Next to it: "Thief in U.K. reports head in jar to police; confesses breaking into house. 'Head' revealed to be a bacon sculpture; homeowner's art project."

mmmm.... bacon head....

On the topic of 'newsfilter', I'm surprised no-one has posted about the new gas-station sniper story here yet. Of course, you can just switch on CNN for more *g*

many years ago i was at portfolio day at academy of art college in SF. i was the last one to [try to] step into a full elevator, and the doors closed on me. I mean, they CLOSED. Slammed into me before the safety mechanism opened them again. I screamed like -apparently- most of the other people there had never heard.

the doors opened, i stepped back, and the doors closed on what must have been one of the most frightened groups of people i'd ever seen. i took the stairs.

call me paranoid but i will NEVER EVER again try to stop the doors closing last minute by sticking my arms in.

and th3ph17 that is freaky. i wouldn't have screamed, i would have cried like a little girl. no, seriously.

If the Illuminati would stop fucking around and share their secret teleportation technology with the rest of humanity, elevator decapitations would be a thing of the past.

The traumatized employee who witnessed the death was taken to the hospital's emergency room for treatment of shock, but was released later that day, said Hancock.

WHY was she was in shock?

the doors suddenly closed, pinning his shoulders. His head was severed when the elevator car moved upward. A female hospital employee witnessed the accident and spent about 20 minutes trapped inside the malfunctioning elevator

Because she was alone in an elevator for 20 fucking minutes with a fucking detached head.

The (only) four star hotel in Cienfuegos, Cuba has elevator doors without safety mechanisms. Once they start closing on you, it's over. I made sure to be the first in the elevator when it opened...

I couldn't tell from the story if she was in the elevator with the head or the body.

teleportation is not really viable because the original (i.e. you) is destroyed and a copy is made. so you would be dead.
