Extra ordinary, every day. Online exhibition drawn from the Bauhaus Collection at Harvard's splendid Busch-Reisinger Museum (which also includes fine holdings of Austrian Secessionism, 1920s abstraction, and German Expressionists). Fellow MeFi modernism buffs, you may start drooling...now.

Excellent post. I thought the Flash was good and funtional (appropriate, no?) but the exhibit to be a little devoid of content. Not bad, mind you, but needed more oomph. Regardless, thanks, scody.

The thing that interests me about the bauhaus is that it's one of the only modernist movements that still applies. Dada, Surrealism, Vorticism, Construvtivism, Futurism etc recede into the 'interesting phase in the development of an artist' file, or are a fascinating but definitely historical footnote in the story of 20th century story. Bauhaus still matters today. Every furniture store, every minimalist urban loft space in the cities tips its hat to Gropius et al. Even typography owes a debt to them - who would've thought that their championing sans-serif fonts would be another black mark against them in Hitler's eyes?
