Craig's List founder rolls his own blog.

Craig Blog launched today, the latest endeavor by Craig Newmark, the amiable founder of Craig's List, one of the most inarguably good things on the Net. Eight-and-a-half years ago, Newmark was a security analyst at Schwab. Inspired by The Well, he created his own community resource, a boon to anyone looking for a job, an apartment, a used DVD player, or... um, sex. This time it's personal.

Craig is a friendly denizen of my unspeakably lovely and mellow neighborhood in San Francisco, Cole Valley, in the upper Haight. (Apple's Jonathan Ive and Derek Powazek of the Fray also live here.) Craig told me he launched Craig's List with the idea, "I'll start something and let the community guide me." In the same spirit, I hope Craig Blog is a fun project for him that almost inadvertently makes the world a better place.

And MetaFilter's on his shortlist of links. I'm impressed.

And you know that his entry into blogging will help push a few hundred-thousand of his closest friends ('cause doesn't everybody who ever put something on Craig's List think of him as a friend?) into having their own blogs. And he really seems to be rolling his own... I peeked at his source, and I'm looking forward to his upcoming entry titled "Life in Nerdistan"...

I don't think of him as a friend though I think he's a friendly guy and I use Craigslist quite often (to find or get rid of excess stuff). But I'm sure I'd like him if I met him. I would definitely thank him for making such a cool and low key spot on the web.

But I do think he's got some useful insights even though he's only got two posts up so far.
