"Murder all journalists, I beg you!" That's just one of the strange phrases that have appeared on tiles embedded in roads in locations as diverse as Cleveland and South America. The tiles also contain cryptic phrases regarding Stanley Kubrick and English historian Arnold Toynbee. Strange stuff.

I've seen these in Chicago - they're cool. And definitely melded to the street.

Cleveland resident Duffy O'Tolle: "It was a good movie, though."

"That's scary," said LaKeisha Webster of Cleveland. "Maybe they're aliens or something."

I just leeerv Cleveland...

And definitely melded to the street.

That actually decribes the tiles better than the article does, agregoli. Thanks.

Pah. I searched for the link and for the word "tiles." Came up with squat.

Oh well, it seems some people hadn't read it before at least...

There's a complete list of known tiles. I've seen three in DC. But the site's being over-run with traffic right now, so be patient.

I enjoyed reading this at slashdot yesterday. Many people quoting articles that seem to have been prepared from our very own thread, which is worth reading. And some wise /.er even linked to our old thread. Since the trail was cold then, it's funny how the old speculation twists and turns back in on itself and then becomes fact. interwebwhisperdownthelanezonetrippin.

"Pah. I searched for the link and for the word "tiles." Came up with squat. "

Hipnerd:

When searching, try one of the definitive, unique words in the post, like "toynbee" or "kubrick." "Tile" doesn't have to be the word they used to describe this phenomena, but the other words are good search words.

Here's an interesting message from some guy that almost caught one of the tile-makers.

Wow, the process by which these are made seems fairly extensive. The creator obviously views this as "art." I kind of respect what s/he's doing...

No shit, I think I saw one of these at the end of Exit 55 off I-95N in Branford, CT. I wondered what it was.

Think I'll go back and take a closer look.
