wendell, when I first heard of it I wondered if talk like a pirate day wasn't a disney viral marketing thing for the pirates of the Caribbean. Except the movie was released to cinemas yesterday here so the timing doesn't quite line up.

wendell & adamt - funny you should mention that. My girlfriend is an intern with the Cleveland branch of Allied Advertising, a film publicity firm. She said one of the associates got a call the other day from Disney, asking if anyone in the office had heard of "Talk Like A Pirate Day". Apparently they want their people to try to do some sort of publicity event for TLAPD to celebrate the release of the "Pirates of the Caribbean" DVD - which isn't until December.

Damn you, sycophant, I was gonna post this next Thursday. I somehow missed the pirate-name fest last year, but found out about Talk Like a Pirate Day 2003 from this Dave Barry column, which has had some delightful repercussions that might interest some of the folks in this thread...
