How 'bout a little bookish fun. We're cool enough to have our own Action Figure, but did you know librarians star in at least 2 cartoons, Library Girl, the adventures of a library girl and her cat, and the fantastically funny "Unshelved".
We've been Featured in the funny pages numerous times, and have been the subject of a couple funny flash cartoons as well, The Library, a catchy toon [Warning: May stick in your head for hours], and a "Cops" parody "Overdue", featuring the library cops.
We're a Funny Bunch, not just a bunch of ol' ladies.

We librarians looooooooooooove our jobs...no, really! And here to prove it is another funny librarian - the Ref Grunt (that's reference desk grunt to you non-librarians), who blogs wise about the many things s/he is obliged to say and do during his/her daily shift. Your current job sounds fun in theory though, but maybe it isn't. Being a librarian might not sound like fun in theory, but it is.

The Library Asssociation of Alberta has produced a fundraising calendar called "Hot Picks" which features librarians and their varied interests - belly dancing, motorbiking, sculpting, mountain climbing, etc. From the web site: "Sixteen photos of vibrant, dynamic, creative, smart, adventurous, sexy librarians!" (I didn't need convincing - I've always thought that librarians are the coolest, sexiest, smartest, people you could ever hope to know.)

I work in I.T. at a library. Does that count? I do get a lot of reference questions... ...and I can answer maybe two out of five of them. Much respect to the "real" librarians.

Yeah, close enough I'd say, but I agree with ArcAm, damn your job sounds soooo much more fun that this librarian crap sometimes. Yeah, that's what I thought at first, too....but it's turned out to be the dreariest job I've ever had. In terms of what I'm getting out of it, the payoff definitely isn't worth what I'm putting into it. There's little intellectual stimulation, and it's a suprisingly uncreative and unmotivating work enviornment. In any case, I'm lookin' to do a career 180...probably do children's librarianship after I get my degree. I figure, what better way to offset the damage done by years of working for my current employer?

Worked in the University Library for two years to help pay for my college edjukayshun. On my top ten list of life regrets is NOT going for a Library Sciences degree (but then, how many people pick the wrong major when they're college-age? Lots.)

Wendell, I'm not sure when you went to university, but most librarians hold Masters degrees in Library/Library and Information Studies. Regardless of what your undergraduate degree was (mine was in Journalism with a concentration in broadcast production), you too can become a librarian.
