the stereotype fairy finally granted Bill Gates' wish.

Mac Buds Everyone assumes you're gay if you use a Mac instead of Windows. Just because we're not hard-core gamers doesn't mean ... well, I guess the classic logo didn't exactly dissuade this line of thinking. I think it's awesome that people in a niche inside of a niche has a whole site to find one another.

that's fine with me. : >

this is a good idea--supposedly the ichat av is good, and people have gotten together over less in common.

Forget gay-the other day somebody said I looked... Canadian. Was it my TiBook?

I've never known a gay person to prefer Apple over anything else unless he or she was artsy. What I wanna know is where are the gay hard-core computer gamers? I've been looking since the days of The Sierra Network and apparently I'm the only one in the world who can correctly be called a camping fag3t. We all have our crosses to bear, I suppose.

I've wasted many a night on nethack, does that count? (actually, I might get back into FPS gaming once I've fished enough loose change out of the couch to finish buying a moderately up to date computer)

If anyone ever had any doubts about what a genius Woz is, go read the "classic logo" link.

WolfDaddy: But you bear your cross like a battle standard. Perhaps other gay hardcore gamers don't like crosses and it scares them off. Anyways, I recommend playing on battle.net, there's plenty of that persuasion there, everything from "hax0r fag3ts" to run-of-the-mill gay ones.

Hey!
I got you all beat for hardcore gamer fagitude, since I'm running an NS clan, and yes we are 2-0 so far, thanks. At best we'll tie the HAMs, but they're top5 globally, so I don't feel too bad about that.

The MacBuds site could really stand a FAQ. I hate trying to figure out if X is gay or not by context. Hell, even a little rainbow triangle would be of assistance.

Lastly, I did assume the cmapus novell guru was gay, due in part to his TiBook - but mostly due to his lilting voice, mincing gait, and fluttery hand gestures. Turns out he's been married some years now, has children, etc. It was a sort of similar shock to when the truth was revealed to me about that man on the show where friends remake a room in each others' houses.

Novell?? Man, that's really really really gay.

Back when I was a postgrad, my gay officemate would spend an average five hours of the working day annoying the shit out of me by playing Unreal tournament and Quake 3. He was pretty good (by his account), though you get to keep your title as he was very much anti-camping .

kavasa, I've made the same assumption. I know a few people who have the stereotypical (I don't know whether the stereotype is true or not or if it's just a lame joke perpetuated by sitcoms) gay lilt and such. I had always just assumed, but then I'd meet their girlfriend or wives and be a bit shocked.

tss, oddly enough I'm Canadian. I grew up in Windsor ON just a few minutes from Detroit MI. When I moved to Wisconsin I was shocked when I was picking up a prescription at the pharmacist one day. I tell him my name, he says "You're wouldn't happen to be from Canada would you?". I told him I was and asked him how he knew and he said it was the accent. I never knew I had one (I don't say eh, I never wear a toque unless it's REALLY cold and I've never, not even once, said "Take off you hosers"). I was additionally suprised because at the time I found the Wisconsin accent so thick. I don't notice it very much any more at all.

Penis-in-vagina-sex-loving (having? not so much) Mac user here. The vast majority of viruses have no effect on Macs, so that means since I own a Mac I can't catch the gay, right? Right? :worries:
posted by emelenjr at 5:22 AM on October 3, 2003

Don't worry, emelenjr - there's a secret cabal of us Fagintosh users intercepting every packet from the Internet to your Mac, examining them for their fabulousness and passing on only those that come with a designer label or a plethora of colorful mix-and-match accessories, to protect your and all the other deviant... uhmm... "differently sexed"... Mac owners. You can go on using your Mac, safe in the knowledge you'll only catch the gay once you realize that, deep down, you really want to...

The post lost me too, guess Hawaii is gay, their rainbow mascot. Then the Dallas Museum of Arts' logo is a rainbow. Should one read meaning into every rainbow they see, like judging a book by its cover?

Is Rush Limbau behind this post?

I'm a proudly metrosexual mac user.

And yes, Hawaii is gay.

"Novell?? Man, that's really really really gay."

It is? Why?

I feel like I've missed an embarassingly obvious joke.

Substrate - the vast majority of people with a lilting voice and fluttery hand gestures do indeed like the dick. But just as some (like myself) who do like the dick do not have aforesaid mannerisms, some who have them, don't like it. I'm sure some bright neuroscientist will someday explain it all, but for now, I'll simply treat it as a reasonable excuse to hit on straight men and chide them for their discomfiture.

I'm a gay, Canadian non-artsy Mac-user who looks a little butch but queens it up from time to time. And my partner is from Wisconsin, but when he goes back for a visit, he gets mistaken for a Canadian. Also, I own an iSight, but I don't use it to chat with strangers.

Wasn't that fascinating?
posted by stonerose at 12:51 PM on October 3, 2003

kavasa, it wasn't an obvious joke, just one at your Novell admin buddy's expense. "Everyone" knows Novell is gay.

One thing mainstreaming of queer culture has done, though: makes your gaydar mis-fire over stuff like this, eh?

stonerose, but do you play Counterstrike?
posted by WolfDaddy at 1:08 PM on October 3, 2003

...I'm from Minnesota, living in Wisconsin right now, and my last serious boyfriend was a Canadian.

This is getting a little frightening.

On preview: oh, good, WD. Is there any particular reason Novell is gay? Or was it gay in the sense getting shot in the head from across the map with a UMP is gay?

It's all so confusing.
posted by kavasa at 1:25 PM on October 3, 2003

Sorry, WolfDaddy, no Counterstrike. As you may know from the previous Mac thread, all I do is sit around and touch my Mac... then myself... then my Mac... then myself...
