The Burning Man website

The Burning Man website has undergone a massive redesign, it seems. Much better than before, and with only 12 days left to BM2K. I could cry, really... I can't make it this year, nor did I make it to Defcon, H2K, or any other gather. Bring back stories from the fire for me, people.

I'm still holding out for the Rather Heated and Mildly Uncomfortable But Not Actually On Fire Man gatherings. Hopefully they'll be held somewhere a little closer to civilization.

I never went in for the whole TAZ hippie love-in that Burning Man seemed to be, but Cardhouse had an intriguing article that almost had me ready to go. Then I read one of the Cardhouse-ites' subsequent criticisms about the disintegration of BM. Makes me glad I missed out on the whole thing.

I was there like a couple of weeks ago..

Anyways, I live in Canada - the land of penguins, so there's no elaborate pseudo-neuvaux-art-pyro-raves within driving distance...

But I hear it's one hell of a party...

a more pleasant alternative may be texas' version of bm...only $30/ticket and not in the horrible desert

on another note, and i've been thinking about this a lot lately, don't you think 2001 will be the end of sxsw's coolness? i expect that the attendees might double from 2000 and it will become a conference along the lines of the mfweb series or cnet...

i think once the numbers at any event increase, the specialness decreases
