That's a nice story, but the money raised by the water is chicken feed compared to the $275,000 (in 1864 dollars) gathered in by selling a single sack of flour over and over, 140 years ago in Nevada. One of my favorite tales of crazy America; more info here (page down to "Citizen Extrodinaire")
