Thanks, rdr. I like this combination/juxtaposition of old and new forms of information technologies. As far as I understand it cuneiform arose out of marks used to index clay tokens representing assets and debts in Mesopotamia; I've got a book by Denise Schmandt-Besserat that describes this (and which I keep meaning to read ...).
