iCurious?

Gabe from Penny Arcade iCurious? Looks like iTunes for Windows has Gabe considering his computing lifestyle. I never thought I'd see the day.

This post was deleted for the following reason: although iCurious is funny, this sums it up well

my own OS biases aside, this doesn't really seem newsworthy, IMHO.

unless you count a couple minor chuckles like linking to that old Apple Gamers Switch parody movie, they haven't really voiced any dislike for the OS. Gabe mentioning an increased curiosity doesn't really surprise me, as the OS is the norm for most of the web comic artists i read. of course, they have a preference for the PC console though... they're still gamers, at heart.

the infamous Mac comic was never a commentary on Apple's products, but rather the implied elitist attitude taken on by Apple's marketing, and their zealots.

the only real vitriol i ever found was actually from tycho, and was again, not directed at the quality of the products, but the mac cult:

"The Mac users I know don't like the Switch campaign any more than I do. And, I've got to be honest with you, I didn't know this kind of crap was still going on - indeed, I thought it was over. I thought that the front in the techno-cultural war had progressed to moving between Windows and Linux, God knows I must endure hearing about it, and that human beings by and large simply purchased a PC or a Macintosh based on personal preference or prior experience or whatever else. Anything aside from the implied difference between what a "real" or "smart" person would do, which has been Apple's motif for as long as I can remember. I don't find the neurotic caricatures selected for these ads compelling in the least, they're not realer, they're people I want to avoid at all costs, examining my own life to systematically eradicate any similarities I might find between us. They are avatars of a corporation, not some kind of social movement, inheriting at full volume the smug superiority that Windows users seek to return in kind."

But can we at least acknowledge that "iCurious" is a pretty funny coinage to describe someone considering switching to Macs?

I'm considering switching from pancakes to waffles. Discuss.

I heard Metafilter as a whole was going to collectively unclench. Nah, couldn't happen.

I heard skallas was going to start to invoice people for the time he wastes reading crap posts like this.

So watch out, people, be very careful about what you post.

I installed iTunes for Windows on my XP box at work.

Woohoo! The best Windows app ever!

*not*

I spent the next 60 minutes apologizing to my office tech guy as he resurrected my machine, which magically croaked on the post-instal restart.

But I'm sure it was all Bill's fault.

I actually read said comic (and accompanying rant, natch), so I would have seen this eventually.

I don't really see it as a FPP though, since it's basically a link saying "Hey look, this guy might like a mac!" I guess if the Penny Arcade guys are celebrities it might be interesting to some, but... well, yeah.
