I have always thought it was Chinese, but I may be wrong and the wording is "may you live in interesting times".

Sounds (to me, anyway) like more of something Apu would say than Arabian insults. It probably works like the Web Economy Bullshit Generator (a dot-com era classic).

dare i bring to your attention the really bad slash sex scene generator,

The 'curse' about interesting times comes from Robert F. Kennedy in 1966, and apparently first appeared in a 1950 science fiction story called U-Turn, according to the man who's obsessed with it.
