I love NPR on the weekend and I have visited this site to find stations that are webcasting shows that I missed. I am glad to see this site get some mefi love.

How about an NPR feed that's not in Real or Windows format? I see one in my iTunes radio tuner, but it's a 128kbs feed, and I don't have that kind of bandwidth to spare.

Unreason, I've been dreaming about the same thing. My local public radio has crap weekend shows, and it's no fun to clean out the garage or mow the lawn without "All Things Considered", "This American Life", or "Wait Wait Don't Tell Me." Opera just doesn't work for washing the car.

dglynn: Sorting like this will give you only mp3 feeds. While the bitrates aren't labeled, many of the filenames will tip you off to the bandwidth required.

That's very impressive, 'very cool indeed. One click and our Midday Program is fired up to access and listen (wbgo/npr). unreason: (and to any MeFi member) - if ever there is an NPR direct or affiliate program that you missed and must have access to, please let me know and I will retrieve what I can. That is not to say I will distribute material that is financially protected and closed to public archive access, but everything is in fact archived and - providing the powers-that-be are okay with the specific request - will make available what is allowed as a courtesy to MeFi members.

dglynn: WBUR has a QuickTime feed that plays in iTunes and is low bandwidth. You have to enter the URL (http://live.wbur.org/feed/wburlive.mov) into iTunes manually, with no whitespace at the end; see the help page.

The streams with the WinAmp-like thunderbolt are in a streamed mp3 format. Also, not all streams provided by a particular station are listed. I noticed that my very own KUOW, which provide Windows Media, Real Audio AND MP3 streams, is listed as having only a WM stream. Finally, a way to get "Wait Wait Don't Tell Me" when I don't wake up early enough on Saturday.

Very cool indeed. What I would really like to see for a lot of these shows is RSS feeds that list each story or news item in a piece. It would make keeping track of these shows a lot better. I've been meaning to sit down and code it up via screen scraping for the shows that I like.

Good question, 'seems there may be quite a few. 50%? If that's the case, we're done for (MeFi? or public radio as we know it?) I can vouch that I do, and can also vouch for several on Massachusetts Ave. that frequent MeFi. 'Would be interested in who else here is... (crazy finger, why "unfortunately"? Which station(s) are you a member of?)

Unfortunately: not because I dislike the radio, on the contrary, I love NHPR. What's unfortunate is that I don't have a real job right now (although I was on NHPR today because I called in, partly because I'm getting involved more in primary politics).
