a 1983 Commodore 64 computer ...which sounds so much better than the crappy '84 version. The use of a different kind of plastic ruined the tone, dude. Vintage rules.

Actually, various manufacturing runs of the Commodore 64's SID 6581 sound chip had a tendancy to sound different -- the analog output filters on the chip varied pretty widely with wafer material and quality, the vagaries of analog IC manufacture, and various changes to the production line. I've owned several machines of various vintages and they do, in fact, sound noticably different while playing the same music.

Seeing this post I thought it was an article about The Band. I was wondering why Garth Hudson, Robbie Robertson and Levon Helm would be using old computers, but I wouldn't have put it past them. Also, what AstroGuy said.

Paul Slocum has put out many great homebrew carts for the 2600. If you own a 2600 (or have a 2600 Emulator, you need to pick up a Synthcart and make some of your own 2600 tracks.
