Thanks for posting this. I'm from Oslo myself, but now live in New York. Browsing this site is like taking walks in my memory. It also reminds me how inept I am at navigating the streets of Oslo.

This is very cool. Oslo's a beautiful place, but hoskala's entirely correct about the beer (and everything else) being goddamn expensive..

Nice post, spazzm. The interface is kind of clunky, but it was fun to get lost in Oslo for a few minutes.

languagehat: Yes, I guess you're right. But I just thought the Royal Castle would make a worthy introduction for those who aren't familiar with Oslo. The castle is one of the most famous landmarks, and you're right at the beginning of the Karl Johan parade street. Some of the pictures are quite old, btw - mid to late 90's. Interesting to see how Grünerløkka looked before the gentrification took hold.

Great find. I didn't spend nearly enough time in Oslo when I last visited so it's great to go around to all the places that I didn't get a chance to visit. Plus it brings back memories of the trip.

What, no Frognerseteren? Pfft. Don't take pictures of a valley from the valley! Frankly, after Sweden, Oslo disappointed me.

That is just too cool! Just off the street behind the tree on the right in this picture is my elementary school, and I used to live 2 blocks from there. My grandma still lives just around the corner. And I still visit Frognerparken every time I go back - it's my favorite place to take anyone who makes the journey with me. You can't really see it in the picture, but adjacent to the sculpture park is a waterpark with 6-8 pools, including one with a dive tower w/ several levels - 1m, 3m, 5m, 7m, and the dreaded 10m (which you can't see in this pic). Every kid who's ever lived in Oslo brags about how old they were when they first jumped off the 10m (33 feet). And everyone seems to know someone who knew someone whose cousin's best friend's sister definitely knew someone who burst their stomach open on a bellyflop from the 10m. Ahhh - nostalgia...
