Okay, can someone verify whether this is a joke? Because Kim Jong-Il is truly bizarre, but I'm not sure he's capable of being this bizarre. Once he developed an obsession with a sexy Japanese magician and kept calling her at all hours, telling her to come to NK in S&M gear.

Young-Hae Chang does have a distinctive style. Speaking of seduction in North Korea: Ply your date with a little adder liquor, and you've definitely got yourself a digestive, festive, and suggestive romantic evening ahead. For now, I'd say North Korea isn't ready to bet the farm that the export of spirits will single-handedly rescue their economy.

I'm on a couple glasses of wine and I'm perfectly content to kick back and listen to the music. I'll have to read the message later. Even so, it is flashing in the backround and only downside, as with most Flash presentations of the sort is there is no cue when the thing will end. That there is the usability guru in me. But still, this won't stop me from enjoying the groove.

So is the artist redoing a speech by a North Korean ( doubtful ) or parodying a South Korean viewpoint ( minority viewpoint, most likely ) of North Korea as a Utopia or just fucking around? Anyone? Entertaining, either way. It would be cool to have a sexual utopia instead of a socialist utopia. They might not have food, but they got what they got they eat off their naked partners. Nice piece, though See-Line Woman, a staple of my iTunes rotation, will never be the same for me. As to the validity of the claims in the piece, while I doubt its origins as a real speech, it would make sense that way. Thanks to their dreadful economy, the North Koreans, are starving. So what do you eat when you can't eat food?

I heard the original (?) recording of this song (remixed) in the soundtrack of a movie called "the General's daughter" (with John Travolta), whose soundtrach was way more interesting then the movie itself. The songs title was mentioned as Sea Lion woman (lyrics and info) and the Digital Tradition Folk Music Database states the following about the song: "Sea Lion Woman", sung by Christine and Katherine Shipp, was recorded for the Library of Congress by Herbert Halpert in Byhalia, Mississippi in May of 1939. It is available on the CD "A Treasury of Library of Congress Field Recordings" selected and annotated by Stephen Wade, Rounder CD 1500. The liner notes mention that the actual title of this playground song might be See [the] Lyin' Woman, C-Line Woman, or Sea Lion Woman." Interestingly this Shipp sisters' original version is contained in the "She began to lie" track [4.8 Mbs mp3] linked to in Nelson DeMille's (author of the book "General's Daughter" was based on) website. This is a remix but still interesting... Somehow I managed to miss all previous references to Young-Hae Chang. The work is stunningly brilliant!
