Reminds me of the greatest game in the history of the known universe -- TANK WARS by Kenny Morse. We spent hours killin' each other over beer in college with this game. No, I never liked Scorched Earth -- it was excessively complicated. Tank Wars was complex enough to give you serious smackdown options without being outright baroque.

I respectfully disagree, having been brought to literally floor-rolling fits of laughter during three-way and four-way Scorched Earth battles with the same folks I enjoyed YArtillery Duel with. It's important to keep in mind that depth was not the point of SE -- it is and always will be all about comedy value.
