Tsk, tsk, America. It seems that we may be collectively having a problem with being nice.

It's over, and if you have any doubts, look up "vulgar behavior" and you're liable to find a picture of:

The entrance sign to camp li-lo-li, actually.

Don't these journalists ever check these things out?

Jack Thomas is one of those crotchety old "It's my ball now!" guys. Apparently he labors under the delusion that people used to be nicer.

Yep, when folks brought a bag lunch to the lynching, they'd always share. Now it's just Big Macs and Slurpees.

People have been bemoaning the decline of civilization since the advent of civilization.

That said, I just had a confrontation with a middle-aged gentleman who resented my using a crosswalk when he wanted to drive his BMW roadster through it. (yes, no signal so I had the right-of-way.)

I got applause from bystanders for telling him "Then get out of your car! I'll show you a midlife crisis!"

...How 'bout you, [EXPLETIVE]?

moonbird, I think you just posted the MetaFilter equivalent of a "Kick Me" sign on your back.

Do we MeFites have trouble being nice? Hard to tell. We've never tried.

Yeah, well we Americans talked about it 101 years ago. No sense in attributing it to any one generation. I mean really, is it coincidence that degeneration is a word?

I remember the jingle:
Come Alive!
You're in the Pepsi Blue Degeneration!

instead of sidestepping in a gentlemanly fashion.

Oh so now its rude to defend yourself when a crazed senior attacks you. Great

That etiquette hell site is one of my favourites. Every time there's a new update everything stops until I've read the whole thing. It's fascinating in a train wreck kind of way.

Also I love Miss Manners, who brings such wit and erudition to bear on the finer points of good manners.
