One Saturday Night in Furbank is an entertaining diary entry wherein diarist, Kitty Bukkake, crashes a furry shindig, The 14th Annual International Anthropomorphic Convention and Exhibition, ConFurence 2002 at the Burbank Airport Hilton.

"Problem: we don't want them to know we are impostors or they might kick us out. We'd brought some plush toys along: Steven had a bunny, and I had a whale, a bee, and a dragonfly, plus a panda keychain. But we weren't fooling anyone with our old toys, our short hairdos and stylish, non-pleated jeans. We didn't fit the profile."

Ms. Kitty B has turned those exciting field notes and photos of the Furry gathering into a book.

The phrase "subculture tourism" comes to mind here, though I guess, by reading more of Ms Bukkake's website, she's somewhat well known and maybe she's good at this sort of reportage. I'm just thankful that no one [as yet] gets kicks out of ridiculing any of my fetishes. This book is really good if anyone is seriously interested in furculture or many other less-well-known kinks.

Why didn't she just buy a fucking ticket to the conference and attend the "secret" meetings and report back? I mean, it's fucking *lame* to just sit around the lobby and sneakily take pictures of people. If she was so interested in them, her interest should have warranted the price of admission. I can't believe she made a *book* out of such thin reporting.

She and her friends went to a convention and afterwards whined in an oh-so-hip tone of voice about it being closed to those who don't purchase admission. This is like going window-shopping and complaining that the merchants expect one to actually pay for the products in the window. The hipster commentary on a genre-based subculture was also grating. If I want to read snide commentary about people who are different from me and the mainstream, I can always go read Something Awful.

I guess I must be some kind of tolerant liberal pussy becuase I don't really see the humor in making fun of furries. I guess the novelty wears off, and its really quite harmless when you think about the fetishes of, say, child molestation or rape. Can we all agree to move on?
