I've been on a Punch and Judy kick too, triggered by two weird and excellent books: Russell Hogan's Riddley Walker, and Neil Gaiman's Mr. Punch.

<bizarre self-disclosure>

As a kid, I would occasionally have really terrible nightmares that I couldn't get out of - they all started with the same Punch and Judy skit. As soon as I saw that curtain open, I'd struggle to wake up before Judy started hitting Punch. If it got that far, then the next dream would be REALLY bad, stay-awake-with-the-lights-on-the-rest-of-the-night-bad.

As an adult, they still scare the crap out of me.

</bizarre>
