Workers Rejoice!! The Maoist Internationalist Movement's music Reviews are in for 2003! As much as Lopez would like to pretend it is otherwise, social status and wealth are inextricably linked in capitalist society. Poor misguided J-Lo.

Wow. What a bunch of assholes.

While I certainly have no love for a lot of the music these people are talking about, they may be the most tedious bunch of killjoys I have ever seen. More proof that Marxists are really Puritans in disguise, in that they can't stand the thought that someone somewhere might be enjoying themselves, especially with something they don't approve of. Political fundamentalists are as tiresome as religious fundementalists.

And music provided it's own review of Mao and his ilk

I'll betcha this organization is almost exclusively made up of white, upper-middle to upper class, Ivy League educated brats who were not beaten enough as children.

They make it pretty clear that they don't even care about the music, just about THE MESSAGE. Man. Reading these (and their movie reviews) just makes my head hurt. It reminds me of a Marxist critique of The Simpsons that I read once, claiming that the show is a total failure because it doesn't show capitalism in a bad-enough light.

Yeah, the MIM are a real organization -- very tiny; you can see a handful of 'em at various demos. They're the ones wearing the atrocious "Mao More Than Ever" t-shirts.

I would like, however, to speak up for Marxists who are most decidely neither puritans nor killjoys with crappy taste in music. But then, I'm a Trotskyist; we're the ones who like art and culture.

I kind of expected them to have Springsteen in the reviewed list, though of course he would be spanked for not being worker-friendly enough I suppose. But I had to laugh at their review of Midnight Oil.
