umm... I'm not a regular espn site visitor, but it looks pretty much the same to me (from what i can recall). Did they move some columns around or something? Its not much of a design either way, but what can you do with a news site?

ESPN; same here, I'm not a regular visitor, but it doesn't look wildy different from when I was last there. bit of a sidetrack coming up... but it'd be interesting... Which news site do you think is best designed? I'll set the ball rolling by nominating BBC News Online, but it looked much better before the redesign earlier this year.

I think it's more interesting that, despite the address including the ill-fated, overhyped go.com, there is no hard link to it on the page.

Changes on ESPN website: 1. An all-table based layout. They got rid of the tabbed "headline" area in the center of the page. (I think a lot of people were not clicking on the tabs to see headlines of other sports). 2. There are not three small "boxes" highlighting three columns within ESPN. An attempt to promote their own content than the wire news. 3. There is a non standard rather large banner ad on the right hand side. I think they went to this redesign after they lost readership to Sportsline. Sportsline has always had a "less graphics - more content" layout. Everytime some "web / technology" magazine did a review of sports websites, they consistantly ranked Sportline lower than ESPN because of the lack of graphics and frills. Turns out these reviewers never really figured out what a sports fan cares about when browsing the web. (Hint: We get our fill of images from 24 hour sports channels like ESPN/SportsCenter, ESPN NEWS, CNN/SI, Fox Sports Net.) There is some white space on the top left corner of the page where there was a logo: "part of the go network." I think they will bring back the link to the GO.com or some other Disney portal. Romenesko's Obscure Store is the best designed news site. Its full of content and less fluff.

clarin.com is an online newspaper from Argentina. Always liked their design.
