Rev. Moon advocates genocide

The Genocidal Moon
"There will be a purge on God’s orders, and evil will be eliminated like shadows," the Unification Church leader Rev. Sun Myong Moon, the owner and primary funder of money-losing right-wing Washington Times, said last week. (The comments were posted online by Rev. Moon’s webmaster and picked up by blogger John Gorenfeld.) "Gays will be eliminated, the 3 Israels will unite. If not then they will be burned. We do not know what kind of world God will bring but this is what happens. It will be greater than the communist purge but at God’s orders."
How should the media be responding to this call for genocide? Have any major media outlets been covering this story? Why not?

Why would they cover the obviously lunatic rantings of a zealot? Isn't shining the light on this crap nearly the same as validating it?

This looks like the original post being referenced.

That said, I don't really get it when people accuse others of being silent on an issue. It sort of validates those people as thought-leaders -- that we want to hear what they have to say as if their words carry so much weight.

This guy isn't the unibomber. He owns a large circulation newspaper in Washington DC, is very well-connected in the Republican Right.

Put it another way: if George Soros said things like this wouldn't it be news? Wouldn't the press be pointing out that he's a threat to our society?

Yes, Lunatic Moon is owner of UPI and the Wash Times. He also leads the leader of a well known sex cult church. Further, Moon heavily supports the Bush political machine.

For God so loved the world...

How is it that people - especially ones in leadership positions - are confused by this? I want to go hide now.

He also owns the University of Bridgeport, a school that up until today I was considering auditing a class at. I'll be taking my money elsewhere.

Moon definitely carries weight.

Not with me but with a certain political party and family.

That makes what he says matter. Such as alms points out.

Such madness should have the light shining upon it, especially from someone so politically active and a loss-leading media propaganda machine owner.

Other than that, I could give a f*ck what the Moonie bastard says.

It's easy—and often advisable—to dismiss lunatic ravings out of hand. But when the lunatics acquire significant power and political capital, it becomes essential to out their madness to the public.

My mom used to teach an Adult Ed. ESL class there. Her students were fond of referring to the school as "Rev. Moon University" in their essays.

My birthplace is a strange town.

Even in killing, the West had to find faster and faster ways. They invented the gun and so forth. In Korea, you only have chopsticks and they cannot do anything so useful, just carry the food to the mouth.

Many claims also suggest China as an origin for gunpowder, and there still remains a possibility that the recipes were transmitted to Europe via the moslems. In the Arabian colonies of Africa, saltpetre was known as "Chinese snow" and in Persia as "Chinese salt" and one 13th century manuscript refers to a substance causing "Heaven shaking thunder!" It should be pointed out however that actual firearms in the far-east were developed at around the same time as in the west and the early use of gunpowder was probably limited to fireworks.

and this gets me....

..."Again, look at Afghanistan. Right before communism began to crumble, there was the situation in Afghanistan. Father gave permission to Lee Shapiro to go in there and get the film about what was really happening there. As you know, Lee was killed there. How grave the situation was, but then, other journalists began to follow him there. Then, it became clear to the world that the communists had to get out. When they killed Lee, they took more than a half million dollars of film footage. That must still be with the KGB. We are negotiating now for the Russians to find it somewhere in the KGB and give it back to us. It is our footage and we can negotiate for it."

frikkin war erupts and when it is (almost) over, all he wants is his footage.

I think Moon is one of those pink elephants that people hang on too because they may afraid of what the neighbors may think with a big pink elephant in the trash.

Funniest comment I've read in a while. Thank you.

Some info on Moony Marriages:
"The actual wedding is combined with a holy wine ceremony where hundreds of married couples drink wine mixed with Rev. Moon's own blood (sacrament-imitation), and sprinkled with water (baptism-imitation). The last part of the wedding is the ceremony of atonement where the Devil is beaten out of the body. This is accomplished when the couples beat each other three times with a stick. Afterwards, often after a long period, a three day ceremony starts as a compulsory introduction to marriage and marital relations. "

The fascists must have some minority to condemn. This is what makes Moon's words a real concern.

The relationship between Moon and the Bush crowd has some VERY serious potential to take some Christian fundie vote away from Bush.

You see, these might be considered fringe ravings not worth validating by acknowledging. Except that they're from a man who is in the mainstream of the Republican Party. Not only does he own the Washington Times and UPI, but he's a billionaire patron of a wide variety of conservative and Christian Right causes.

He helped pay for Iran-Contra, and he's received a large federal grant for his missionaries to teach Abstinence-Only Sex Ed in public schools. The White House's Faith-Based czar has attended his events in order to promote the Faith-Based Initiative. This guy isn't Time Cube, he's stone cold Republican establishment.

There's much more about him at www.gorenfeld.net, including an expose of his Abstinence-Only efforts as well as overview of his closeness with the Bush family and White House.

Have you ever played a long game with a group of friends,
let's say Risk or Monopoly or some such, and you think you
know who's winning, but then someone comes from way
behind and crushes everyone in a single round.

That's my moonie fear. I worry that while the Muslims and the Xtians
and the Jews are all squabbling, the Moonies will suddenly show
up, inform us that they are now in charge, hand us our robes
and our sacred text and explain that we will now have sex only
in the approved manner, in front of the True Parents®.

Admittedly, it does sound like a pretty good life as long as you are the god-king.

I would really love to see some brave reporter ask President Bush about his connections on camera some day.
He would either have to diss to moonies or risk alienating a good portion of his normal xtian followers.

I'm telling ya. Forget all the WMD stuff -- if MoveOn wants to turn the election around, all they gotta do is tell the world that the president isn't ashamed of teaming up with a cult leader who holds bizarre "tear down the Christian cross" ceremonies.
