Forget the Super Bowl. In Philadelphia all eyes are on the Wing Bowl, where 20,000 (often) drunk (mostly) men filed into the Wachovia Center beginning shortly after dawn this morning, a workday, to ogle thong-clad Wingettes and cheer on the eaters. This year's winner: Sonya Thomas, a 105 lb. woman, who knocked off 2-1 favorite and four-peat reigning champ El Wingador by gobbling 167 buffalo wings in 34 minutes. The event is huge. Miss Thomas is not.

I've heard that thin people have more room for their stomachs to expand versus big people. I find all eating contests kind of gross, but that's me.

All this gurgitation fad, I just don't know what to think. I mean, I'm not religious, but it just seems like our culture is just based on taking each one of the seven "deadly sins" and turning them into sporting events!

The caption in the Black Table piece is priceless: This is Sonya Thomas. She can eat 43 soft tacos in 11 minutes. She is currently single. I hate to say it: But I'm pretty sure she swallows.

i find competitive eating is pretty disgusting and ridiculous, albeit rather harmless. maybe i'm too PC (as if that actually means anything), but at least it's another good reminder that we have more than enough food to feed the world. shame on us for not solving the hunger problem yet. competitive fucking, now that's something i'd pay to see. i'm not sure how you'd win, however .... aren't most of the competitive-eating champs thin folks these days? it always seems like a 100-lb. asian wins most of these events.
