AT LAST! Someone found a practical use for the new Apple Cube.

It's not good for the processor to block the vent like that.
I know the cube has some serious limitations, but I heard a rumor (I hope it was not here) that these machines are going to be pitched as wireless home servers. The inability to upgrade the processor would not cause too much trouble, since they are small they could be put almost anywhere, and they wont even need a permanent monitor. Even if that isn't what they were designed for, it would be a pretty good application for them.

Isn't the method shown rather excessive dust protection?

Thirteen -- that may have been something I posted, derived from a subconversation on /. I think it is a nifty idea, even if it's a bit soon for Apple to be exploiting that market.

And besides, I think another certain company already has that home single box server market wrapped up.

Indeed - perhaps this is why Cobalt is suing Apple over the Cube.

Which is the most specious lawsuit going. The boxes look nothing alike. They're not designed for the same purpose. They don't serve the same market. So the problem is ... the word "cube?"

In that case, Ice Cube should sue both their asses.

Is that Cobalt box wireless/airport compatible? It is a fine looking thing, if I did not already have an appropriate home server in place I would be pretty excited. Bonus points for Dhartung for starting nifty rumors.

And then there's Nintendo's cube ... i guess ^3 is the new orange.

Instead of the usual "omg, theres too many cubes! you suck! he sucks! they suck! i suck!" thing, i'm gonna just sit down and say - I like both Apple and Nintendo's cube very much.
