Yeah, yeah, I sometimes write for Crunchable.net. Apologies to anyone thinking I'm trying to drive traffic there, but I'm not. I'm also not gay or interested very much in organized religion, but I admire this guy for standing up for what he believes in.

He's very thoughtful, but he's dead wrong about one thing: The orthodox are going to leave the Episcopal Church. They're just biding their time to figure out how to do it. I don't condemn his lifestyle, but he shouldn't have put himself up for the bishopric. If a heterosexual man had left his wife and children to be in a illicit relationship with another woman, he would have immediately been seen as unqualified to be a bishop.

I don't believe that's the case, that he left his wife for another man. FWIW, in a speaking engagement in August last year, Robinson explained that he didn't meet his lover until two months after his wife remarried.

Except that Robinson's ex-wife and kids approve of his current relationship, and supported his election to the episcopate. I'm not saying it wasn't difficult for her, and I imagine it was, but your analogy doesn't quite scale.

And although the Church of England doesn't want it to happen, the Anglican churches in the Southern Hemisphere (Africa, South America) are going to side with the new orthodox branch of Episcopalianism over the current ECUSA. Since the Southern Anglican chuches have millions more members than the C of E, C of Canada and ECUSA, the U.S. orthodox branch will be alligned with the Worldwide Anglican Communion, and thanks to Robinson, the U.S. Episcopal Church will be on the outside looking in. Sad.
