Wow, I *loved* those as a kid. It's just not the same without the tactile sensation of all those little plastic pegs, and the heat from that burning lightbulb... but it's probably the next best thing. Cool link!

Not to mention the shouts of the parents in the wee hours when they picked up those little pointy pegs out of the carpet with their feet. Oh, the memories. This is good!

Pop-O-Matic pops the dice. Pop a SIX and you move TWICE!

(there used to be a popomatic online. no doubt someone will link to it. i think you should send the good money to me though. no doubt i'm cuter than whoever finds it.)

I remember my brother and I making a haunted house out of our bedroom one Halloween when I was about 6 years old -- we made a skull head picture on the Lite-Brite and sat it on the floor in the dark. That was a fun toy.

It's just not the same without the tactile sensation of all those little plastic pegs

...and the satisfying pop as the peg punched through the black paper.

(One difference in this online version: You can remove a peg without leaving a white spot where the light shines through the hole in the paper. Wouldn't that have been handy?)

Didn't know anyone on Mefi was old enough to remember this

Seriously? I'm 24 and I distinctly remember both my LightBright and the commercials. And I think I"m on the negative side of mean/median around here.

But nothing can replace that sound that came when you popped a plug through the contruction paper-like templates.

Oh no, that was the whole point! You had to choose very carefully, and use restraint with your craft, lest you be forced to pay the ultimate Lite Brite price. (Sort of an analogy for real life and relationships, if you think about it real hard.)

Respect the pegs!

I love Lite-Brite! I had one...although I wish that this simulation made the sound the peg made punching through the paper. : )

I had a Pop-O-Matic Bingo. Much fun. : )

We had to find a gift for a six-year-old this weekend, and happened across Lite-Brite for 50% off at our local Toys-R-US ... so we bought it, extra pegs and everything.

It was the hit of the party. The birthday girl loved it, and the adults loved it so much they actually spent more time playing with it than the birthday girl did .... which suited her perfectly, actually, watching all these adults do her bidding.

Great, great toy.

PS: Sadly, the original link no longer works
