Chuck Palahniuk's writers' workshop

Chuck Palahniuk (the author of such brawny reads as Choke and Fight Club) has an online writers' workshop that has monthly assignments subject to peer review, essays on writing by Chucky P., and a real smoove interface. I'm not a big fan of the guy or his work, but his "distinction essays", which are only posted to the site for a limited time, do contain the kind of solid instruction you'd hafta pay money for at a real writers workshop. The quality of the submissions varies, but seems to me to be a bit better than most online freebie writers-circle-jerk sites. Just don't choke on the ego.

Great link. I think Palahniuk wrote two amazing novels-- Fight Club and Survivor but then kept re-writing the same thing over and over and now it's sort of tired.

But still, an entirely compelling resource here.

I don't know much about the guy, but what kind of tool wears a t-shirt with a quote from a character in one of his own novels?

Good advice he gives. But man, that lame-ass noncopyable flash text thing makes me want to copy it just on principle.

What principle that is, I have no idea.

what kind of tool wears a t-shirt with a quote from a character in one of his own novels?

If I'd come up with that line, I'd be the tool.

...what kind of tool...

Like I said, don't choke on the ego.

And I'm sure that the noncopyable Flash (hmm... a challenge!) is a compromise he made with his publisher, as the essays are to be compiled for publication some time down the road.

Well, I'm all for Chuck P, I think he's a tremendous writer. I think you are being rather mean calling any site a 'circle-jerk'.
