Ok, I've heard about the "Metafilter is a wiki for the day" thing, but have yet to see what anyone's talking about. I figured maybe it was because I was on the plain-text style, but changing it around doesn't help. Did I just miss the fun?

Hah! Poor Urgo. I know the guy hosting that site personally, he originally posted it in a Slashdot thread, which I assume is where you found it, Fourmyle? At any rate his webserver is now somewhat burnt toast. He's been wanting a MeFi account for some time now, too; he's asking me to plead for one now that his site's been roasted ;)

Ran across two good ones in the space of ten minutes, just in the course of normal daily browsing: - From Broadway.com: "Jolie & Witherspoon Set for Big Screen Wicked". That sound you're hearing is 10,000 theatre queens suddenly clutching their chests in panic. - Merriam-Webster's dictionary's daily Word for the Wise says that in an effort to remove political pressures and to stave off possible future boycotts, foods will no longer be named for countries and foods with countries in their names (Canadian bacon, French fries, Swedish meatballs, etc.) will be renamed. Note the name of the spokeswoman quoted.

Note that the Broadway.com one was credible because you only see the headline on the front page, mixed in with other real news. The headline has changed throughout the day, at one point reading "Mel Gibson to helm a gorier 'Jesus Christ Superstar'".

The current bottom one to TidBits misses all the other ones they pulled today - Microsoft buys AOL among them. But the best by far (for deeply sad Mac types, ahem) was the OS 9 for G5s. Had me going...

The Register claims that researchers have discovered the gene responsible for blogging.

However, the breakthrough raises serious ethical concerns. Is it right for parents to choose whether or not their child will be a weblogger? Can eradication of the gene provide a biological cure for solipism?
