Some said it could'nt be done, but the U.S. seems to have suceeded in uniting Iraq's different ethnic and religious groups. Now perhaps its time for the Vulcan's to begin to reign in their dreams of empire.

Most comments here focus upon the Vulcans and ignore the "uniting the Iraquis." Do you really think the two Muslim groups plus the Jurtds will sit down and make nice now? What kept them under wraps was Saddam. Now that he is gone, the country has little or no prospects of peacful and harmonious living with the three groups that have long been at odds with each other.

What Postroad said. They're only united against a common enemy--US. Once they succeed in getting rid of us (which is going to happen sooner rather than later) they'll go back to hating each other. and those Vulcans should be surrendered up to Sadr's army (or just a group of Iraqi mothers that have lost their children).

Postroad, I assume by "Jurdts" you meant "Jurdtz's". An easy mistake to make, I know. Damn consonant's. Perhaps someone would like to make a case for this thread not deserving to die a quick and painless death. Four spelling/grammatical errors and one bad link in a two-sentence post, not to mention subject matter that's pretty much banned. The debating point could easily have been made in this equally shitty post or this slightly better one. /meta

cbrody - The post could have been done more artfully, yes. Ahh, but who now wouldn't wish would that the clock could be rolled back and that the US occupation of Iraq could be magically erased by Matt Haughey's executice fiat. I know, I know.....there's more to the story. Of course. I just suspect that it will make me sad to see this "more".

Before people start to laugh off the term "vulcan" the same as they did "neoconservative," note that these people called themselves the "Vulcans" when they began advising then-presidential candidate Bush in 2000. Many neoconservatives also referred to themselves as neoconservatives during the past twenty or so years. Of course, this didn't stop them from levelling charges of conspiracy mongering, anti-semitism, etc., whenever someone else referred to them as such.

Just for a moment, let's (let us) consider the following: what if Iraq was an ally to the US, and was being aggressively attacked by Iran? Should the US defend an ally against an invader? Would it be worth it, even if there was a large "fifth column" of Iran supporters in Iraq? Okay, now that you have that answer in mind, what if the country was France, and there was a large "fifth column" of Moslems hoping to destroy the French democracy? With help from, say, Morocco, Iran, Syria, Egypt, Pakistan and Yemen? Not officially, mind you, but on the sly. Despite sneers against the French, you wouldn't like the idea of Moslem Theocracy of France, under Sharia Law. At least I would hope.
