i remember seeing this guy years ago, he was down in times square on a thursday night going nuts on those buckets, and there was a crowd of at least a hundred people watching him. we hung out for about two hours watching him play. it was amazing. iirc he was also in at least one music video that got played on mtv, but for the life of me i can't remember which one.

I want to buy him a kit. Theres an old adage that great art rises to the top no matter what tools the artist uses. In the hands of a pro a $5 pin hole camera can take better pictures than a $50,000 camera. It is all in how you use what you have. Sometimes fancy equipment just gets in the way, see how he uses his foot to move the jug to create endless variety of sound.

There's a movie, title of which slips my mind at the moment, that has a young black kid doing exactly this. Maybe it's the same guy, I dunno. Bugging the hell out of me that I can't remember the film though. Woulda been late 80s/early 90s.

There are a few folks running around the subway system doing this sort of stuff... There's some amazing talent underground... This guy generally hangs out over by the S at 42nd st.

Yep, that's a real funny stereotype, huh? Never heard that one before. People here will eat that crap up. I've never lived in south carolina, but I've known a few people who lived in the area, and they were pretty talented. Besides, if you want 'underground' talent like this, new orleans is a lot closer and has a ton of it.
