What is The Athenaeum? The Athenaeum is a humanities collection, mostly late 19th century European paintings.

there's great stuff there-esp. the Sargents, but i can't get anything to open up as an enlargement.

Its great to find a site with high-res scans of art. Few things make me crazier than reading about a painting on line and having those horrible circa 1993 low res scans as the only accompaniment.

I hope they add to the older centuries though. Good find.
