Facewound is an excellent homebrew side-scrolling action game that's currently still in preview. It features zombies, bullet time, and a full arsenal of weaponry. It's not web based, but it does feature some nice special effects for those of you with good graphics cards (not required). Also, it's very friendly to custom maps and skins. Here is the download page for those who want to get right into it. All and all, a good way to waste a Saturday.

On an odd tangent, the Google search for "Facewound" also brings up a malicious mirror of the Facewound site which features a trojan laden download. (don't download and install anything from this site, obviously).

wow. I can't wait to try this at home and see how it looks.

who's so demented they'd post a mirror of this to trick people into downloading crap?

A failed level designer, maybe?

interesting...

thanks for the link.

Thanks for the link!
(and the warning about the other site).

The game crawls on my laptop. But from what I saw it was pretty nice.

I have a PIII 800 and it runs at 80fps for me if I turn off the special effects. Just a word to the wise.

Although, that said, it's not really very fun, considering you can beat most of the included levels in less than 30 seconds. By "beat" I mean kill everyone in the level, though to go to the next level you have to physically type in a map name in the console, as far as I can tell.

I know, I know, I have no right to complain, I'm just saying, there's no mistaking it for a finished product yet. Which we already knew, of course.

While we're looking at cute little games, I thought I'd mention kkreiger, an extremely pretty first-person-shooter in 96kb.

Warning -- those without late-model GeForce or Radeon boards need not apply. Same for all y'all GeForce MX'ers.

thanks! i was looking for this type of game and didn't find this one - will defiantly try making some new textures

i did find soldat (unrestricted shareware) which has great multiplayer

and there is xevil which is the bees knees

any other realtime (not turn based) multiplayer sidescrollers like these?

Hildago: The right mouse button spawns more zombies. I find multiple spawns of zombies with bullet time enabled to be a pretty nice time waster. But yeah, it's not a finished game yet.

Still, nice preview. And yeah, I know you weren't complaining. :)

12345: Yeah! Make those levels! Damn the man!

While we're talking about it, check out the games at http://indiegamejam.com. Some pretty neat stuff there. Maybe should be a FPP?
