Actually, this is Moldova, not to be confused with the region of Romania of the same name. While they are ethnic Romanians, they were alternately controlled by Romania and Russia over the last hundred years or so, but are now somewhat independent (except for the chunk still in Romania). There remains the strong possibility that they will rejoin Romania in the near future. Sorry, I'm done now...

Kind of reminds me of the time I drank too much and got lost hiking in the Azores. I took a wrong turn in the hills and almost got killed by wild dogs. As for all of you booking your flights to Molvania, "Wakuz Dro Brungka Spazibo". No really, you'll need one.

The Molvania book was written by some famous Australian comedians (the guys that are on The Panel, for those who've seen it). They also wrote the screenplay for The Castle, which is one of the funniest movies of the last ten years.

Loquax: of late we in Portugal have been blessed with an impressive amount of Moldavians and Ukrainian immigrants. After about six months, they inexplicably sound like Portuguese (my English mother has lived here for over 50 years with no such luck) - and act like us too. I will have nothing said against them. Fair enough Miguel, Slavs do, in fact rule (however Romanians and Moldovans are not Slavs but latin peoples). And the Portuguese are always welcome in beautiful Bucharest, or somewhat less so Chisinau, for that matter. And mwhybark, you just blew my mind with that reference. By the whiskers of Kurvi-Tasch indeed.
