Tomorrow night's edition of "Nightline" on ABC will be a departure from the norm: the entire program will consist of Ted Koppel reading the names and showing the pictures of more than 700 US servicemembers killed in Iraq since March 19, 2003. Here's an interview with the Nightline executive producer whose idea it was. The idea is not without controversy: Lisa de Moraes of the WaPo decries it as "a cheap, content-free stunt designed to tug at our heartstrings and bag a big number on the second night of the May ratings race." (Is this really Nielsen-bait?) And the Sinclair Broadcast Group, which owns eight ABC affiliates, is refusing to air the broadcast, calling it "motivated by a political agenda designed to undermine the efforts of the United States in Iraq."

dammit, soyjoy's post wasn't there when I started composing this, and I forgot to hit "refresh" in the other window before I hit "post."

Matt! Please hope me!

Personally, I am willing to forgive the double post, since the first one was posted as Vidiot was searching for his extra links.

And I think this is a great idea: It's about time America woke up to the atrocities of its pet war - so thanks to both Vidiot and soyjoy.

Hey, I forgive it too, but I did relentlessly refresh the front page before hitting Post.

I had assumed someone would post this back when Nightline announced it, so I figured it was imminent here. Anyway, Vidiot's version does have those extra links and link titles - this is one of those times when it would be advantageous to be able to append one thread onto another...
