I feel like this is much too fast to get a handle on (it's cool that it's a Flash applet, though). There are much more "playable" lightcycle racers if you're willing to download and install. Two that were pretty decent when I last played them about a year ago (development is ongoing on both) are Armagetron and glTron.

I don't know - I hit level 22 after about 40 minutes or so of practice. Kind of addictive.
